In 1979, I became chairman of my
Church's Christmas Bazaar. From that experience, I became
interested in counted cross-stitch, paper folding, clothespin
ornaments, and many other handcrafts. As the years have gone
by, my interests became more focused on knitting. A friend
convinced me to show my work to a local consignment shop, Art
to Wear, on North Street in Fairfax, Virginia.
I sold my knitted items there starting in December 1994.
I did a steady business, but I produced more pieces than
they could use. My children and husband convinced me that I should
look to the larger audience available on the web. Now
Art to Wear has gone out of business, since the
building they were in was torn down and we couldn't
find a replacement space at a reasonable price
I design custom patterns for hats, sweaters, Christmas
stockings, baby booties and love mittens, and all of them sell
well. When I don't have orders waiting, I work ahead on ready-made
items.
I love reading children's books and thinking up
designs that go with them. I make finger puppets to accompany
well-known children's books. (Copyright concerns prevent me from displaying
these designs; contact me for details.) I can also knit stocking
hats or any of my other patterns in your favorite team's colors.
