Cast on with #5 needles, 33 stitches
cast on yardage: fingertip to opposite elbow

For Cuff - Work for two inches, in rib of knit one, purl one
Change to stockinet stitch and #7 needles; work for 3¾ inches from cast on edge.

Upper Mouth - slip 7 stitches onto a holder, (change to mouth color), then cast onto an empty set of #7 needles, 7 stitches, which get added onto the stitches in front of the body piece. (This makes the inside of the upper mouth.) Work across the 7 (mouth-piece) stitches, then work across body/head piece and add another 7 stitches onto this 2nd side, after placing 7 stitches onto another holder. (These two parts now in mouth color will be sewn together in the middle. (The stitches on holders become outside of lower mouth)

Eyes - At about 4½ inches begin eyes, by working across the mouth part; then work the following pattern

  • R1, 3, 2 eye color, 5 body color, 2 eye color, end with 3 body color.
  • R2, -3, 4 eye color, 5, 4 eye color, 3
repeat this row once, repeat 1st row

Work until piece measures 6 inches from cast on edge. Then work shaping as below for end of mitten.

R4, purl
R5, k 2 tog, across,
Cut yardage -
1st end piece -12"
2nd end piece - 12"
3rd end piece - 4"
Pull yarn through these stitches

Lower Mouth - Cast on mouth color, and 7 stitches on #7 needles. If need to, change needles so when start to work, 1st row is knit. Work until piece measures about 6 inches, then begin shaping for decrease.

Ears - #5 needle, pick up 3 stitches per ear about 1 inch behind eyes
R1 - increase on middle stitch
R2 purl, tie ends
Work for 1 _ - 2 inches
Next k 2 tog twice, take 2nd stitch over first, pull yarn thru (leave 4" tail) Work this tail end down the side of the ear, pull underneath and fasten off with the tail from the other side of this ear. Repeat for second ear.

Nose - use double strand of yarn, go over 3-4 stitches several times.
